How to hire a remote assistant: a simple checklist

By Success Mike LLC · October 3, 2026

Hiring a remote assistant does not need to be complicated. These steps keep the process short and lower the risk of a bad match.

1. Define the work

Write down the tasks, the hours you need and the tools the person will use. A clear scope attracts the right candidates and filters out the rest.

2. Decide what matters most

Pick the three skills that count: for example written English, reliability and spreadsheet skills. Judge candidates on those first.

3. Run a small paid test

Give a short task that looks like real work. Check the quality, the speed and how well the person followed your instructions.

4. Check communication

Notice how fast and how clearly candidates reply. A remote assistant who communicates well makes everything else easier.

5. Start small and review

Begin with a limited set of tasks. Review results after the first week, then add more work as trust grows.

6. Put the basics in writing

Agree on working hours, how you will talk each day, and how access to your accounts will be given and removed.
