How to improve your CV: a checklist for job seekers in any field
By Success Mike LLC · October 3, 2026
Recruiters in every industry scan a CV in seconds. A clear, targeted CV gets more calls. Use this checklist before you apply.
Keep the layout simple
Use a clean font, clear headings and consistent dates. Avoid tables and images, since some hiring systems cannot read them.
Match the job
Read the job post and use its key terms where they are true for you, such as tools, skills and certifications. This helps both people and applicant tracking systems.
Show results, not duties
Instead of "handled customer calls", write what changed because of your work, with numbers where you have them.
Check the basics
- Spelling and grammar
- Current contact details
- A short summary at the top
- One or two pages, with the most relevant work first
